Nuance

どんな always needs a noun after it; on its own it is incomplete. To answer, describe the thing with an adjective + noun (しずかな人です) or name a type (ロックがすきです). Do not mix it up with どの, which asks "which one" from a set you can see or know. どう asks "how" about a state or opinion, and does not take a noun.

Compared with

どうですか asks how something is or makes a suggestion, with no noun after it. どんな + noun asks what kind of thing it is.

どうして asks why. どんな asks what kind.

どんな often fills the B slot in AはBですか: AはどんなNounですか.
