Nuance

から is direct and personal. For polite excuses or requests to seniors, ので sounds softer. After a noun or な-adjective you must add だ or です: 雨だから. Without it, 雨から means 'from the rain'.

Compared with

ので also means 'because' but sounds softer and more objective, so it suits apologies and polite requests. から is more direct.

どうして asks 'why?', and the usual answer ends in 〜からです.

Noun + から means 'from' (九時から). Sentence + から means 'because'. Look at what comes before it.
