〜のほうが好きです

I prefer ~ (like ~ better)

AよりBのほうがすきです means 'I like B more than A'. のほうが points to the one you prefer, and the よりA part is often left out when it is clear.

Noun + のほうがすきです
A + より + B + のほうがすきです

Nuance

のほうが always marks the thing you like more, and より marks the one you like less. Use it to compare two things; for three or more, use 〜の中で〜が一ばんすきです. After a verb, drop の: 読むほうが, not 読むのほうが. すき takes が, so the preferred item is marked with のほうが, never のほうを.

Compared with

This is the general comparison pattern with any adjective (より大きい, のほうが高い). のほうがすきです is the same pattern used with すき.

〜と〜とどちらがすきですか is the question; のほうがすきです is the usual answer.

一ばん picks the favourite from three or more things. のほうが compares only two.

のほうがすき compares two things. 一ばんすき picks your favourite from a group of three or more, usually with 〜の中で.
